I have included every Champu, published or unpublished, so far known, in this book, and attempted to give an idea. of its contents, with the help of copious quotations. it is hoped that my work will be of interest and profit not only to the students of Malayalam, but also to those who wish to read and enjoy good literature in that language. How far I have succeeded in the achievement of my object I must have to dispassionate and discerning critics to judge.
It is hardly necessary for me to add that research in the history of our literature of our literature is still in an infantile stage and that it is only as time advances that it will be in a position to claim accuracy and perfection. Inspite of all my intensive work along this line extending now for a period of over four decades, I do not expect this book to be free from defects. I shall be profoundly grateful to all scholars who may be able to throuw further light on the champus herein dealt with or to communicate to me the existance of Champus which I have not yet been priviledged to peruse. I promise that proper use will be made of the knowledge so derived, when the next edition of the book comes to be published.
