പുരയിൽ പാൎത്തു. അത് ഒരു ഗുഹ ആകുന്നു എന്നു യുസ്തീൻ പറഞ്ഞ ഒരു
പുരാണ ശ്രുതി ഉണ്ടു. അവിടെവെച്ചു മറിയ ശിശുവെ പ്രസവിച്ചു തന്റെ
ദാരിദ്ര്യാവസ്ഥയെ വിചാരിയാതെ യേശു എന്ന ദിവ്യനാമം വിളിച്ചു താഴ്മ
യോടെ അവന്റെ രാജത്വത്തെ പാൎത്തിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

ഈ ജനനം സംഭവിച്ചതു ഇപ്പോൾ പറയുന്ന ഒന്നാം ക്രിസ്താബ്ദത്തിൽ
അല്ല അതിന്നു ൪ വഷം മുമ്പെ ആകുന്നു. ആയതു ഔഗുസ്തന്റെ ൨൬ആം
ആണ്ടും രോമനഗരവൎഷം ൭൫൦ആമതും ആകുന്നു. ആയതു ഹെരോദാവിന്റെ
അന്ത്യവൎഷം തന്നെ. മാസവും ദിവസവും അറിയുന്നില്ല ജനുവരി അല്ലെ
ങ്കിൽ ഫെബ്രുവരി മാസത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചു എന്നു വിചാരിപ്പാൻ സംഗതി ഉണ്ടു.

ഈ ജനനത്തിന്റെ ഹീനതയാൽ ദേവമാനത്തിൽ കുറവു വരാത്തവ
ണ്ണം തൽക്ഷണം ഒർ അതിശയം സംഭവിച്ചു. കന്നുകാലിക്കൂട്ടങ്ങളെ മേയ്ക്കുന്ന
വർ ചിലർ വന്നു ജീൎണ്ണവസ്ത്രം പുതച്ചും തൊട്ടിയിൽ കിടന്നും ഉള്ള ശിശുവെ
തിരഞ്ഞു കണ്ടു വണങ്ങി സന്തോഷിക്കയും ചെയ്തു. അമ്മയും യോസേഫും
ആശ്ചൎയ്യപ്പെട്ടു ചോദിച്ചാറെ വയലിൽവെച്ചു ദേവതേജസ്സു കണ്ടതും ഒരു
ദൂതൻ ദാവിദൂരിൽ മശീഹയുടെ ജനനം അറിയിച്ചതും മനുഷ്യരിൽ ദേവപ്ര
സാദം ഇറങ്ങി വന്നതിനാൽ വാനങ്ങളിൽ ദേവമഹത്വം വിളങ്ങി ഭൂമിയിൽ
സ്വൎഗ്ഗീയസമാധാനം പുക്കും ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു വാനോരുടെ സ്തുതിഗാനം
തങ്ങൾ കേട്ടതും ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു മറിയെക്കും പല യോഗ്യന്മാൎക്കും വിചാരിച്ചു
ധ്യാനിച്ചു കൊൾ്വാൻ ഹേതു ജനിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

§ 9.

CHRIST'S CIRCUMCISION AND PRESENTATION IN THE TEMPLE.
യേശുവിന്റെ പരിഛ്ശേദനയും ദേവാലയത്തിലെ അൎപ്പണവും.

MATT. I. 25b....and he called his name JESUS.

LUKE II.

21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days of her purification ac— cording to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; 23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) 24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
