From the Head of Police of Palghaut Talook
to the
Head Assistant Magistrate of Malabar.
The Duffadar attached to the preventive establishment and
the Mookhiyastars of Tenoor Desham in the Mangara Amsham
of this Talook having reported to me that they had received
information of the circumstance of smuggled Tobacco being
concealed in the hut of the 1st. Defendant, who works at the
gate of Chamangote Ittinan Nair one of the abovementioned
Mookiyastars, and that the hut in question had been searched
by the Duffadar and Mookiyastars in the presence of Witnesses
at 5 o clock on the evening of the 4th. Instant, when the 1st De-
fendant produced from his hut 11 bags containing 112 bundles
of Tobacco and delivered them to them; and that the accused
and the Tobacco have been forwarded to the Cutcherry; and
the report in question having reached me about 9 oclock on the
night of the 5th. Instant at too late an hour for commencing the
investigation of the case I examined the accused and the Wit-
nesses on the following day, and weighed the Tobacco in
question which was found to be in weight 7 Toolams 75 Palams
and of the value of Rupees 65–4–2. The prisoner on being
