adj. വിദ്യ science s. n. അഭ്യസിപ്പിച്ചു taught 3d p. sing. of the past
tense of causal verb അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്കുന്നു to teach, to cause lo learn.
കുറയ few, little, adj. ദിവസം കൊണ്ട in a day. ദിവസം a day
and the postpos. കൊണ്ട by, in. When joined to nouns denoting time,
this postposition has the signification of “after.” പണം money, fanams,
s. n. വ്രയം ചെയ്ത having spent, past verb. part. of v. a. വ്രയം ചെ
യ്യുന്നു to spend. ദരിദ്രൻ poor, a poor man. ആയി became, 3d p. sing.
past tense of irr. v. n. ആകുന്നു to become. സാമൎത്ഥ്യം cleverness, s. n.
വളരെ much, plently adj. ധനം wealth, s. n. സമ്പാദിച്ച having
acquired past part. of v. a. സമ്പാദിക്കുന്നു to acquire. സുഖമായി
happily, adv. സുഖം ease, happiness, s. n. ഇരുന്നു was, past tense of
irr. v. n. ഇരിക്കുന്നു to be. അതുകൊണ്ട therefore, compd. of അത
that and കൊണ്ട by. അഭ്യസിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവൻ he who has learned.
സുഖപ്പെടും will prosper, fut, tense of v. n. സുഖപ്പെടുന്നു to pro-
sper. സുഖം happiness and പെടുന്നു to obtain. lit. to suffer. This verb
when affixed to a neuter noun denoting any bodily suffering or mental af-
fection of any kind whatever forms a compound verb of a neuter signifi
cation.
൨ാം കഥ.
ഒരു ദിവസം ഒരു ചെക്കൻ ഒരു തൊട്ടത്തിലെക്ക പൊയി
ഒരു മാവിന്മെൽ നല്ല മാമ്പഴം കണ്ടു. അത പറിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപൊ
കണം എന്ന വളരെ ആഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ടായി. എന്നാൽ അതിന്റെ
ചുറ്റും മുൾപടപ്പ ഉള്ളത കണ്ട ഭയപ്പെട്ട ആ മാമ്പഴം പറിക്കാ
തെ വീട്ടിലെക്ക പൊയി. കുറയ നെരം കഴിഞ്ഞ ശെഷം മ
റ്റൊരു ചെക്കൻ അവിടെ ചെന്ന മുൾപടപ്പ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത
കൂട്ടാക്കാതെ മരം ഏറി മാമ്പഴം ഭക്ഷിച്ചു. അതുകൊണ്ട ധൈ
ൎയ്യശാലികൾക്ക ഭാഗ്യം ഉണ്ടാകും.
2nd STORY.
A boy going one day into a garden, saw a fine fruit on a
mango tree, which he was very desirous to get, but finding it
surrounded with thorn bushes, he refrained, through fear, from
plucking it, and went to his house. Another boy coming there
shortly after, was not afraid of the thorn bushes, but mounted
the tree and ate the fruit. Thus fortune attends the brave.
