4th. STORY.
In a certain Village lived a Brahmin, who had a son, One
day going on a journey, he took him along with him. On the
road the lad cried out to his father, in joke, that there was a
tiger, the father looked back and found it not to be the case.
After they had gone a little further, a tiger made its appearance
in reality, and caught hold of the boy, who cried out again to
his father, but he, imagining that his son was making fun of him
as before, continued his journey without looking back. Thus
no one will believe the words of a liar.
അഗ്രഹാരത്തിൽ In a Brahmin’s Village, 3d abl. of അഗ്രഹാ
രം a Village inhabited by Brahmins, s. n. ബ്രാഹ്മണൻ a Brahmin, s.
m. മകൻ a son. s. m. ഒന്നെമാത്രം one only. അവന്ന മകൻ ഒ
ന്നെ മാത്രം he had only one son. ഒരു വഴിക്ക on a road. വഴി a road,
s. n. യാത്ര a journey, a pilgrimage, s. n. പുറപ്പെട്ട having set out, past
verb. part. of പുറപ്പെടുന്നു to set out, v. n. കൂടെ together, adv. കൂട്ടി
കൊണ്ടുപൊയി having taken with him as a companion, past verb, part.
of കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപൊകുന്നു. വെച്ച has the signification of in, on when
used with a noun in the 3d abl. case. vide Grammar para. 206. അച്ഛ
നെ acc. sing. of അച്ഛൻ a father, s. m. വിളിച്ച having called, past
verb. part. of വിളിക്കുന്നു to call. ഇതാ behold interj. പുലി a tiger.
s. n. വരുന്നു is coming, 3d p. sing, pres, tense of വരുന്നു to come. ഒ
റക്കെ loudly, adv. നിലവിളികൂട്ടി cried out, 3d p, sing. past tense of
നിലവിളികൂട്ടുന്നു, v.n. അപ്പൻ a father, s. m. തിരിഞ്ഞ having
turned, past verb. part. of തിരിയുന്നു to turn, v. n. നൊക്കിയാറെ
after having looked, compd. of നൊക്കിയ past rel. part. of നൊക്കുന്നു
to look and the postposition ആറെ after. ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു there was
