വിറ്റാൽ ഇനിക്ക രണ്ട പൈസ്സ വീതം അല്ലാതെ അധികം
കിട്ടുന്നില്ല. ഇതിനാൽ ഞാൻ സമ്പന്നനാകയില്ല എന്നാൽ
ഇതിന്റെ അകിട അറുത്ത അതിലുള്ള പാൽ അത്രയും എടു
ത്താൽ ക്ഷണെന ഇനിക്ക വെണ്ടുന്ന സമ്പത്ത ഉണ്ടാകും.
ഇങ്ങിനെ ആലൊചിച്ചുകൊണ്ട അതിന്റെ അകിട അറുത്ത
നൊക്കുമ്പൊൾ അതിൽ രക്തവും മാംസവും അല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊ
ന്നും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുല്ല അപ്പൊൾ അവൻ തന്റെ ജീവന
ത്തിന്ന മുഖ്യമായിരുന്ന എരുമ ചത്തുപൊയല്ലൊ എന്ന വളരെ
വിചാരപ്പെട്ടു. അതുകൊണ്ട നമുക്കുള്ളതിൽ അധികം വെണ
മെന്ന ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ നമുക്കുള്ളതും പൊയിപ്പൊകും.
11th. STORY
A Sudra had a buffalo, which gave daily a seer of milk.
He sold the milk for two dubs, and by this means earned his
livelihood. One day he thought to himself “by selling the
milk which this buffalo gives daily, I never get more than two
dubs. In this way I never shall become rich; but if I cut it’s
udder and take out all the milk, that is in it, I shall soon be-
come very wealthy.” Under this impression he cut the udder,
but finding nothing there but flesh and blood, he deeply lament-
ed the loss of the buffalo; which was his only means of support.
Thus by coveting more than we have, we shall lose even what
we possess.
എരുമ a she buffalo, s. f. ദിവസംപ്രതി every day, daily, adv.
കറന്നാൽ If (I, you or he) milk, condi. form of കറക്കുന്നു to milk,
v. a. ഇടങ്ങഴി a measure, a seer, s. n. വീതം at the rate of, adv. ര
ണ്ട പൈസ്സക്ക for two pice, വിറ്റ having sold, past verbal part. of
വിൽക്കുന്നു to sell, v. a. ജിവനം livelihood, s. n. കഴിച്ചുകൊണ്ടി
രുന്നു was making, 3rd. p. sing. past tense of കഴിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കു
ന്നു to be performing or making, intensive form of കഴിക്കുന്നു to per-
form, vide Grammar para. 127. ആലൊചിച്ചത എന്തെന്നാൽ
lit. that which he reflected (was) as follows, reflected as follows. നിദാ
നം always, adv. അധികം more, adj. കിട്ടുന്നില്ല will not be obtained,
neg, aorist of കിട്ടുന്നു to be obtained, to be found, v. n. സമ്പന്നൻ a
rich man, s. m. ആകയില്ല (I) shall not become compd. of ആക the
becoming, verb. noun of ആകുന്നു to become and ഇല്ല there is not. അകി
