൧൬ാം കഥ.
ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ രണ്ട ചെറുക്കന്മാര ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു അവ
രിൽ ഒരുവൻ വിവെകി ഒരുവൻ അവിവെകി. ഒരു നാൾ ആ
ചെറുക്കന്മാര ഒരു തൊട്ടത്തിലെക്ക പൊയി അവിടെ അവ
ൎക്ക ഒരു തെങ്ങാ കിട്ടി. വിവെകി ആയുള്ളവൻ അതിന്റെ ഉടച്ച
ഉള്ളിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതെല്ലാം താൻ തിന്നു പുറത്തെ ചിരട്ട
അവിവെകിയായുള്ളവന്ന കൊടുത്തു അവൻ ഒരു കഷണം
വായിൽ ഇട്ടാറെ അത കല്ലപൊലെ കട്ടിയായിരുന്നു. അപ്പൊ
ൾ തന്റെ സ്നെഹിതൻ തന്നെ ചതിച്ചു എന്ന അറിഞ്ഞുകൊ
ണ്ട ഇനി എപ്പൊൾ എങ്കിലും ഇങ്ങിനെ തരം വന്നാൽ അവൻ
ചെയ്ത പൊലെ ചെയ്യണമെന്ന നിശ്ചയിച്ചു. പിന്നെ കുറയ
നാൾ കഴിഞ്ഞ ശെഷം അവൎക്കിരുവൎക്കും കൂടെ ഒരു മാങ്ങാ കിട്ടി
അപ്പൊൾ ആ അവിവെകിയായുള്ളവൻ മറ്റവൻ ചെയ്തതി
ന്ന പകരം ചെയ്യണമെന്ന വെച്ച ബുദ്ധിമാനായ ചെക്കനെ
നൊക്കി ഇനിക്ക അകത്തെത തന്ന പുറത്തെ എല്ലാം നീയെടു
ത്തൊ എന്ന പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പൊൾ അവൻ സന്തൊഷിച്ച നല്ലത
എന്ന വെച്ച പുറത്തെ ദിശ എല്ലാം താൻ തിന്ന ബുദ്ധിഹീനനാ
യുള്ള തന്റെ കൂട്ടന്ന അകത്തെ അണ്ടി കൊടുത്തു. അതുകൊ
ണ്ട ബുദ്ധിഹിനന്മാരായുള്ളവര ഏറയും താനെതന്നെ അബ
ദ്ധം വരുത്തികൊള്ളുന്നു.
16th. STORY.
In a certain village there lived two boys, one of whom was
clever and the other stupid. One day they went together to
a garden, where they found a cocoanut. The sharp lad broke it,
and having eaten the inside, gave the shell to his companion,
who put a small piece into his mouth, but found it as hard as
a stone. He perceived that he was deceived by his friend, and
said to himself, if ever an opportunity offers, I will take care to
be even with him for this. A few days after they found a mango,
when the foolish boy, thinking to serve the other a like trick,
