വന്നാൽ അതിൽനിന്ന ഒഴിഞ്ഞ കൊള്ളുന്നതിന്ന നിനക്ക എ
ത്ര ഉപായങ്ങൾ അറിയാമെന്ന ചൊദിച്ചു. അതിന്ന പൂച്ച ത
നിക്ക ഒരു ഉപായം അറിയാം വരുന്ന ആപത്തുകളെല്ലാം ആ
ഒരു ഉപായംകൊണ്ട തന്നെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞ കൊണ്ട വരുന്നു എന്ന
പറഞ്ഞു. അന്നെരം കുറുക്കൻ ചിരിച്ച നിനക്ക ഇത ഒന്ന ത
ന്നെയൊ അറിയാവു. ഇനിക്ക അറിയാവുന്ന ഉപായങ്ങളെ
ല്ലാം നിനക്ക അറിവാൻ വഹിയ അല്ലയൊ. ഇപ്രകാരം പരി
ഹാസം ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പൊൾ നായാട്ട നായ്ക്കൾ ആ മാ
ൎഗ്ഗമായിവന്നു ആ നായ്ക്കളെക്കണ്ട പൂച്ച അവിടെ ഒരു മര
ത്തിന്മെൽ കയറി. കുറുക്കൻ മരം കയറുവാൻ വഹിയാതെയും
വെറെ ഉപായങ്ങൾ അറിയാതെയും ആ നായ്ക്കളുടെ മദ്ധ്യെ
അകപ്പെട്ട അപായപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതുകൊണ്ട ഒരു
വിദ്യ തന്നെ നന്നായി ഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവർ ആരായാലും
സുഖപ്പെടും.
18th. STORY.
One day a cat and a jackal meeting, entered into conversation.
The jackal asked the cat, in case any danger should happen,
how many stratagems he knew by which he might escape it.
The cat told him, he knew only one, by which he had escaped all
dangers that had befallen him. Upon this the jackal laughed,
and said, do you know only this one? You certainly do not know
all those tricks with which I am acquainted. While he was jesting
him in this manner, a pack of hounds came that way, and the cat
having seen them, climbed up a tree, but the jackal being unable
to get up the tree and not recollecting any other contrivance,
was caught by the hounds and killed. Therefore, if a person
knows only one science well, he will prosper.
പൂച്ച a cat, s. n. കുറുക്കൻ a jackal, s. n. സംസാരിക്കുന്നു to talk,
converse, v. n. ആപത്ത a misfortune, s. n. ഒഴിയുന്നു to escape, v. n.
ഉപായം an expedient, s. n. ചിരിക്കുന്നു to laugh, v. n. നായാട്ടനാ
യ a hunting dog, s. n. വഹിയാതെ not being able, verbal part. of im-
perfect verb വഹിയ it is impossible. വെറെ other, adj. മദ്ധ്യെ in
the middle, adv. അകപ്പെടുന്നു to be caught, entangled, v. n. അപാ
യപ്പെടുന്നു to suffer misfortune, v. n. ആരായാലും whosoever he may
be, compd. of ആര who and ആയാലും although they be.
