എന്നാറെ ൟ സാവധാനമായ വാക്ക കെട്ട ആ കാക്കെക്ക മന
സ്സ അലിഞ്ഞ ദയ ഉണ്ടായി. ആയ്ത കൊണ്ട ആ കാക്ക പുലി
യുടെ വായിന്ന അകത്ത കെറി ആ എല്ല എടുത്തകളഞ്ഞു. പി
ന്നെ ഇനിക്ക മാംസം തരാമെന്ന പറഞ്ഞുവെല്ലൊ. തരിക എ
ന്ന ചൊദിച്ചപ്പൊൾ നീ എന്റെ വായിൽ കെറിയ സമയം
എന്റെ പല്ലിന്റെ ഇടയിൽ വെച്ച അമൎത്താതെ സുഖമായി
വെളിയിൽ ഇറങ്ങുന്നതിന്ന എടയാക്കി എല്ലൊ. ആ നന്ദി വി
ചാരിക്കാതെ ഇനി മാംസം വെണമെന്ന എന്നൊട ചൊദിക്കു
ന്നുവൊ. നിന്റെ പാട്ടിന്ന നീ പൊയ്ക്കൊ എന്ന പുലി പറ
ഞ്ഞു. അതകൊണ്ട മനുഷ്യർ കഷ്ടകാലത്തിങ്കൽ തങ്ങളെ ര
ക്ഷിക്കുന്ന സ്നെഹിതന്മാരെ ഭാഗ്യകാലത്ത ഏറയും മറന്ന ക
ളയുന്നു.
20th. STORY.
In a certain forest there was a tiger, who killed and devour-
ed all the beasts that inhabited it. One day he caught a wild
buffalo, and while eating it, one of its bones stuck in his jaws.
Being unable to extract this bone, blood and matter collected
there, and occasioned him great pain. The tiger laid himself
down under a tree, and in great pain opened his mouth and
thus exclaimed. “How shall I extract this bone? How shall I
live? What shall I do?” In this distress he saw a crow upon
the tree and said to him “O crow, you see the pain I am suffer-
ing, if you will extract this bone and restore me to life, I will
give you as much as you want from the food I procure every
day.” The crow was moved by this supplication, and taking
compassion on him, entered his mouth, from which he took out
the bone, and asked the tiger for the flesh he had promised.
The tiger replied “When you entered my mouth I did not crush
you in my jaws, but allowed you to come out uninjured. Un-
grateful for this, do you ask me for flesh? go about your busi-
ness.” Thus, people in prosperity often forget the friends who
have served them in adversity.
ഒക്കയും all, adj. ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നു to eat, v.a. ഭക്ഷിച്ചവന്നു was
in the habit of eating. The verb വരുന്നു to come affixed to the past part.
of another verb gives a sense of frequency to the action which the preced-
ing verb is intended to express. കാട്ടെരുമ a wild buffalo, s. f. എല്ല a
