with him, set out. During his journey he stopped near a tank
by the road side, and having tied the monkey and sheep to a
tree and placed the rice and curds near them, he went to wash
his teeth. In the interim, the monkey eat all the curds and
rice, and having rubbed a little that remained upon his hand
on the sheep’s mouth, went and sat down at a distance as if he
knew nothing of the matter. When the Soodra returned and
saw that there was not a single grain of rice left, and some was
sticking on the mouth of the sheep, he said to himself this sheep
has certainly eaten the rice which I kept for my own eating,
and having become angry, he beat it severely. In this manner,
ignorant masters never enquire into the merits or demerits of a
case.
