പൊയി. പിന്നെ അവൻ ആകുംവണ്ണം അന്വെഷണം
ചെയ്താറെ ആ വകകളിൽ ഏതാനും ഒരുത്തന്റെ കൈവശം
ഉള്ള പ്രകാരം തുമ്പ കിട്ടി ചില ഹെതുക്കൾ കൊണ്ട അവൻ
തന്നെ മൊഷ്ടിച്ച പ്രകാരം അവന്ന സന്ദെഹം തൊന്നി. അ
തുകൊണ്ട അവനെ ന്യായാധിപതിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടു
പൊയി അന്നെരം ന്യായാധിപതി ആ തുലുക്കനെ നൊക്കി
ഇവൻ നിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ മൊഷ്ടിച്ചു എന്നുള്ളതിന്ന ഉറപ്പായ
സാക്ഷികൾ ഉണ്ടൊ എന്ന ചൊദിച്ചു. സാക്ഷികൾ ഇല്ലാ
എന്ന തുലുക്കൻ ബൊധിപ്പിച്ചു. അതിന്റെ ശെഷം ഉണ്ടാ
യ സംഗതി കണ്ട സാക്ഷികൾ ഇല്ലാത്ത അന്യായം വിസ്ത
രിച്ച കൂടാ എന്ന ധൎമ്മ ശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ നിഷ്കൎഷയായി കല്പിച്ചി
രിക്കുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട നിന്റെ അന്യായം നീക്കത്തക്കത എ
ന്ന അവനൊട ന്യായാധിപതി കല്പിച്ചു. ആ തുലുക്കൻ ആ
വാക്ക കെട്ട തന്റെ പാദരക്ഷ എടുത്ത അതുകൊണ്ട ആ കള്ള
നെ അടിച്ച തുടങ്ങി. ന്യായാധിപതി എത്രയും കൊപിച്ച ഇ
പ്രകാരം ചെയ്യുന്നതിന ഹെതു എന്തെന്ന ചൊദിച്ചു. അവൻ
ന്യായാധിപതിയെ നൊക്കി ഇവൻ മൊഷ്ടിച്ച സംഗതി തെ
ളിയിപ്പാൻ ഞാൻ സാക്ഷികളെ ചെൎത്തു വെച്ചുകൊള്ളെണ്ടതി
ന്ന വെണ്ടി ഇവൻ എന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ കെറിമൊഷണം ചെയ്വാൻ
ഭാവിച്ചിരുന്ന വിവരം അതിന്ന മുമ്പെ തന്നെ എന്നെ അറി
യിച്ചില്ല അതുകൊണ്ട അടിക്കുന്നു എന്ന ബൊധിപ്പിച്ചു. ൟ
ഉത്തരം കെട്ട ന്യായാധിപതി ലജ്ജിച്ച മിണ്ടാതെ ഇരുന്നു.
23rd. STORY.
There lived formerly in Masulipatan a Mahomedan, whose
house was one night robbed. After much search he traced
some of the articles to a man whom, for several reasons, he
suspected to be the thief, and whom he took before the judge.
The judge asked the Mahomedan, whether he had any positive
proof that the prisoner was the person who had robbed his
house. He answered in the negative; Whereupon the judge
told him that he must dismiss the case, as he was strictly for-
bidden by the sastras to enquire into cases where there are no
eye-witnesses to the fact. On hearing this, the Mahomedan
took off his slipper and began to beat the thief. The judge, in
a great passion, asked him his reasons for so doing. He told
