ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ, ന്റെ. s. One acquainted with the Shá- stras, skilled in the knowledge of law and religion espe- cially, one skilled in arts and sciences. ശാസ്ത്രപരി ചയമുള്ളവൻ.
ശാസ്ത്രം, ത്തിന്റെ. s. 1. Scripture; science; art ; doctrine; institutes of religion, law or letters; especially consider- ed as of divine origin, or authority. Used singly, it implies works of literature or science in general: and it is therefore customarily connected with some other word to limit its application, as the Védánta Shastras, or treatises of philosophical theology; the Dharma Shástras, books of law, &c. It is also applied to less important branches of knowledge, as the Cávya Shastras, or poetical works; Silpi Shástras, works on the mechanical arts; and Cáma Shastras or erotic compositions. In the singular number it is also used comprehensively to signify the body of all that has been written on the subject, as Dhar- ma Shástra, the institutes or codes of law. 2. a book in general.

ശാസ്ത്രി, യുടെ. s. A Pundit, a teacher of sacred sciences, an expounder of the law, a lawyer, a learned man, a doctor, one skilled in arts and sciences.
ശാസ്യം, ത്തിന്റെ. s. 1. Order, command, compulsion. 2. government, ruling. 3. punishment, reprimand. ശാ സനം. adj. 1. To be regulated or ordained, to be en- forced, to be provided for by any act of government or judicature. 2. punishable, deserving punishment or re- proof. ശാസ്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു, 1. To order, to command, to compel. 2. to rule, to govern. 3. to punish, to re- primand.
