5th. പൊകുന്നു present, പൊയി past, പൊകും future, to go. When
used with principal verbs it denotes completeness: sometimes it is redun-
dant; as,
നനഞ്ഞപൊയി. Quite wet.
നമ്മുടെ കുതിര ചത്തുപൊയി. My horse is dead.
6th. ചെയ്യുന്നു present, ചെയ്തു past, ചെയ്യും future, to do. When
used singly this verb retains its primary signification, as ഞാൻ അതി
നെ ചെയ്തു, I did that. When connected with verbal nouns, as before
explained, it has two distinct uses;
First, it is elegantly placed at the close of one, or more sentences, to
which it adds much force and beauty; as,
അവൻ വിളി കെട്ട വരികയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
He heard the call and is coming.
അവർ വന്നാൽ ഞാൻ അവൎക്ക സഹായിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.
If they come I will assist them.
അവർ വന്ന വൎത്തമാനം പറഞ്ഞിട്ട പൊകയും ചെയ്തു.
They came, reported the matter, and went away.
Second, it is used as a connecting verb. In this sense it is often made
to link verbs together indiscriminately; but its proper use, as a connecting
verb, is to join two or more words expressive of different actions that are
performed at the same time. The following examples will show how it
is commonly used in both ways.
അവൻ ചിരിക്കയും പാടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
He is laughing, and singing.
അവർ ആഗ്രഹിക്കയും ഭയപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
They desired and feared.
പാപത്തെ കുറിച്ച അനുതപിക്കയും ദൊഷങ്ങളെ ഉപെ
ക്ഷിക്കയും ഇനി മെലാൽ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കല്പനക
ളിൻ പ്രകാരം നടക്കയും ചെയ്താൽ നീ രക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടും.
