These forms are sometimes qualified by particles; thus,
അവൻ തന്റെ മക്കളെക്കാളും അധികം ബുദ്ധിയുള്ളവ
നാകുന്നു.
He is wiser, lit. more wise, than his Children.
ബിംബങ്ങളെ തൊഴുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ ഒരു പട്ടിയെ വ
ന്ദിക്കുന്നത എത്രയും നല്ലതാകുന്നു?
How much better is it to worship a dog; than to bow to Idols?
ൟ പശു അതിനെക്കാൾ എറെ വിശെഷപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
This cow is more excellent than that.
2nd. Sometimes the comparative is formed by means of adverbs, or
the particle ഒളും, affixed to the nominative or dative case of a noun; as,
ഇത ചെയ്യുന്നതിന്ന എറ്റം എളുപ്പമുള്ളതാകുന്നു.
It is easier to do this.
ഇവന്ന മറ്റവനൊളും ശക്തിയില്ല.
He hath less strength than the other.
OF THE FORMATION OF THE SUPERLATIVE
DEGREE.
131. The superlative is formed by the help of certain adverbs joined
to words expressive of character, quality, dimensions, &c: as,
അവൻ എറ്റവും നന്നായുള്ള സ്ഥലത്ത പാൎക്കുന്നു.
He dwells in the best place.
രാജാവ അവന്ന പ്രധാന വസ്ത്രം കൊടുത്തു.
The king gave him the best, lit. the chief, garment.
അവൻ അവരിൽ എറ്റവും അല്പനായി വിചാരിക്കപ്പെ
ട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
He is the least esteemed among them.
അത വൃക്ഷങ്ങളിൽ എറ്റവും വലിയതാകുന്നു.
It is the greatest among trees.
