2nd. When the interrogative pronouns are used, simply to ask ques-
tions, the particle of interrogation is omitted; as,
ആര വരും? Who will come?
എത കാൎയ്യത്തെ കുറിച്ച അവൻ സംസാരിച്ചു.
About what affair did he speak.
എന്ത പറയുന്നു? What do you say?
3rd. In sentences where the English words like as, even as, &c. occur
they are sometimes rendered into Malayalim by the interrogative pronoun,
and ഒ affixed to the following verb; as,
എതപ്രകാരം അയാൾ ചെയ്തുവൊ അപ്രകാരം തന്നെ
ഇവനും ചെയ്യും.
This man will do even as, or, like as that man did.
This form which it is to be observed is from the Sanscrit, is not very
concise; the Malayalim idiom for the same kind of phrase is much more
simple; thus,
അയാൾ ചെയ്തത പൊലെ തന്നെ ഇവനും ചെയ്യും; or
അയാൾ ചെയ്ത പ്രകാരം തന്നെ ഇവനും ചെയ്യും.
This man will do like as; or, according as that man did.
4th. In sentences where our pronouns whoever; whatever are used
the interrogative particle is sometimes affixed to the verb; as,
ആര എങ്കിലും ഇപ്രകാരം ചെയ്യുമൊ അവന്ന സമ്മാ
നം കിട്ടും.
Whoever will do so will obtain a reward.
എത എങ്കിലും അവൻ കല്പിക്കുന്നുവൊ അത പ്രമാണി
ച്ച ചെയ്‌വിൻ.
Whatever he commands that observe and do.
These forms are from the Sanscrit, and chiefly confined to Native writ-
ings: the more common and better form is thus,
ആര എങ്കിലും ഇപ്രകാരം ചെയ്താൽ അവന്ന സമ്മാനം
കിട്ടും.
എന്ത എങ്കിലും അവൻ കല്പിച്ചാൽ അത പ്രമാണിച്ച
ചെയ്‌വിൻ.
