140 A GRAMMAR OF THE
നീ ആപത്തിൽനിന്ന അവരെ രക്ഷിച്ചത കൊണ്ട ന
ല്ലവൻ എന്നാൽ നിനക്ക ദുഃഖം വന്നാൽ ഞാനും അ
പ്രകാരം തന്നെ നിനക്ക സഹായിക്കും.
You are a good man for saving them from distress: if trouble come
upon you, I will in like manner assist you.
171. ഉടനെ. This particle requires verbs, or participles, and is used
thus,
ഞാൻ അവിടെ ചെന്നാൽ ഉടനെ വള്ളം ഇങ്ങൊട്ട കൊ
ടുത്തയക്കാം.
As soon as I go thither, I will send the Boat.
മഴ പെയ്ത ഉടനെ വെള്ളം പൊങ്ങി.
The water rose as soon as it had rained.
ഞാൻ അവിടെ ചെന്ന ഉടനെ അവൻ പൊയ്കളഞ്ഞു.
He went away immediately I went there.
172. തൊറും, is placed in sentences thus,
തൊട്ടം തൊറും വൃക്ഷം നാട തൊറും ഭാഷ.
In every garden a tree; in every country a language.
നീ നടക്കുന്തൊറും നിന്റെ ദീനം വൎദ്ധിക്കും.
The more you walk, the more your disease will increase.
173. മുതൽ. Besides being used with participles as explained before,
this particle is frequently used with nouns, or pronouns in the nomina-
tive case; as,
ൟ ആണ്ട മുതൽ ആ പറമ്പിന്ന കരം തരെണം.
From this year, you must pay tax for that.field.
ഇന്ന മുതൽ, or, ൟ ദിവസം മുതൽ ഞാൻ അപ്രകാരം
ചെയ്യാം.
From this day forward, I will do so.
174. വരെ, This particle referring to time and place is used.
1st. With nouns, or pronouns in the nominative case; thus,
ഞാൻ അത സാധിക്കുന്നത വരെ ഇവിടെനിന്ന പൊ
കയില്ല.
I will not go hence, until this is accomplished.
അവൻ പൊയ നാൾ വരെ ഞാൻ അവനൊട കൂടെ
പാൎത്തു.
I lived with him up to the day he left.
