consequences. Having had so many misfortunes, the poor
man had no courage to continue his work. This boy
would have been more industrious, if he had had better
companions. Be pious, and thou wilt be happy. Most
people would be much happier, if they were better, but
being so liable to errors and mistakes, they are always
discontented, and consequently unhappy. I should have
been more cautious, if I had any idea of the danger.
Would the children not have been more grateful to their
parents, if they had had a proper knowledge of their
kindness. You would have had more knowledge, if you
had not always been so lazy. Your duty is to be obedient,
whether others be so or not. It is easy to judge others;
but should we have been more prudent than they, had
we been in the same condition? Always be grateful to
your parents and benefactors, for ingratitude is a vice
that every one despises. Always do your duty, and let
others think and talk what they please.
