In the morning I got up very early, sometimes at
five o'clock, and had generally a long stroll in the field
before breakfast. It gave me much pleasure to see what
the different people were doing. Some were ploughing the
field, others were mowing the grass on the meadow, and
others were sowing corn, etc. Every body was very busy
the whole day. The greatest pleasure to me was to take
a ride on horseback with my uncle, which I did almost
every day. He has very good horses indeed, and most of
them are very spirited. We sometimes had a drive in his
beautiful carriage to other villages, or to some of the other
farmers. I was very sorry, when the holidays were over
and I was obliged to return home. My uncle has invited
me to spend my next holidays again with him, and I hope
my parents will allow me to go there again.

നഗരത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നതിനേക്കാൾ നാട്ടിൽ ഇ
രിക്കുന്നതിൽ ഞാൻ അധികം രസിക്കുന്നു. നാട്ടിൽ
വളരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്ന എന്നോടു പറക. നാട്ടിൽ
നെല്ലു, മുത്താറി, ചാമ, കോതമ്പു, യവം, മുതിര,
തെന, പയറു, കിഴങ്ങ, കരിമ്പ എന്നും മറ്റും പല
വകകൾ വളരുന്നു. നെല്ലു ഏറ്റം ഉപകാരമുള്ള ധാ
ന്യം തന്നെ. കോതമ്പു കൊണ്ടു അപ്പം ഉണ്ടാക്കപ്പെ
ടുന്നു. മുത്താറി, ചാമ, യവം, തെന, പയറു ഇത്യാദി
മനുഷ്യന്റെ ആഹാരത്തിന്നു നല്ലതാകുന്നു. മുതിര
കുതിരകളുടെയും കാളകളുടെയും ആഹാരം. ഞങ്ങളുടെ
സസ്യത്തോട്ടത്തിൽ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു വളരെ പയറു ഉണ്ടു.
