pure verbal nouns, as shewn below:

Affixes etc. Old verbal nouns formed with
such affixes.
1. Certain verbal nouns
are formed by a mere
lengthening of the vowel
of the root without the
use of any affix.
Ex: tín (=food); úṇ (=food); chúṭu;
(=heat); pór (=battle); kéṭu (=harm);
vér̥u (=difference); páṭu (=suffering
etc.)
2. A, am, al, ar, ir, ma, i. Ex: nila (=stand-point); vaka (=kind);
akalam (= width); kaḷḷam (=theft);
tuppal (=spittle); aṭukkal (near-
ness); ular (=dry); órmma (= recol-
lection); tólma (=defeat); pašima
(=softness); poṭi (powder).
3. Tal, ta, tam, tŭ, ti. Ex: míttal (=upper part, surface); pá-
chchal (=current); chítta (=badness);
chérchcha (=connection); naṭattam
(=conduct); veḷichcham (=light);
koyttu (harvest); óttu (= study);
páṭṭu (= song); már̥r̥u (=change);
por̥uti (=patience); pakuti (=portion).
4. Vu, avu, vi, ppu. Ex: ar̥ivu (=knowledge); chávu
(=death); nóvu (=pain); oppu (=agree-
ment); pir̥appu (=birth); véḷvi
(=marriage); kaḷavu (=lie); chelavu
(=expense); pir̥avi (=birth.)
